Since 1895, Moree’s hot springs have drawn visitors to the region on the state’s Western Slopes. When you’re not soaking your cares away in the artesian springs, revel in the area’s rich Indigenous culture – a quarter of Moree’s population identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander – great galleries, art deco architecture and fabulous produce (pecans, anyone?).

Natural wonders

The mineral-rich waters are loved for their therapeutic properties. The most famous hot spa is the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre in Moree, a charming town in northwest NSW. The delightful town of Narrabri is a scenic drive south and near Mount Kaputar National Park.

The natural wonders of the Moree and Narrabri area are spectacular. These incredible attractions can be experienced on outdoor adventures, including camping, mountain biking and canoeing. Near the Pilliga Forest, Yarrie Lake is popular for swimming, fishing and boating.

Culture & the stars

You’ll find many things to do in the two towns, from admiring the beautifully restored art deco buildings in Moree to watching theatre and shows at the Crossing Theatre in Narrabri. The Bank Art Museum Moree houses the most significant collection of Aboriginal paintings in regional NSW.

Learn all about the universe at CSIRO’s world-leading Australia Telescope Compact Array in Narrabri. Just 25km west of the town, this array consists of six 22m dish antennas, astronomy exhibits and deep views of the universe.

Delicious produce

Rich alluvial soils support the production of cotton, wheat, lamb, beef, olives, wine grapes and pecans. You can take a tour of cotton farms and Stahmann Pecan Nut Farm in Moree, the largest pecan farm in the Southern Hemisphere.

A vibrant events calendar includes the Moree on a Plate Food and Wine Festival. If you prefer to catch your own, cast a line for golden perch and Murray cod at Narrabri Fish Farm, the largest freshwater fish farm in NSW.

Getting there

The Moree and Narrabri region is just over a 7hr drive from Sydney and 5hr 30min from Brisbane. There is a daily train service from Sydney, which takes around 8hr 30min, or you can fly into Moree Airport and rent a car.

Fly into Moree Airport

Moree Airport is 5km from Moree’s town centre. Use the taxi services at the airport to make the short trip north. Alternatively, rent a car from the hire services available at the airport and explore the region at your own pace.

QantasLink operates direct flights between Moree and Sydney six days a week. Link Airways operates from Narrabri to Brisbane four days a week and Narrabri to Sydney three days a week.
