Artesian spas

Each year, thousands of visitors flock to the region’s soothing artesian spas, enjoying the therapeutic properties of the mineral-rich, naturally heated waters. The most famous spa is the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre.

There are more natural spas northwest of Moree, including the Boomi Artesian Hot Spa and Cold Pools, and the Mungindi Hot Pool. Southwest of Narrabri is the Pilliga Artesian Bore Baths, with a water temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.

Walks and trails

A short drive east of Narrabri is the Mount Kaputar National Park, a great spot for bushwalking, mountain biking and driving. Uncover Mount Kaputar’s volcanic past on the Sawn Rocks walking track.

For adventurers, the Yulludunida walking track rewards with sweeping views of the park and a mountain crater. Waa Gorge walking track is another challenging trail offering picturesque views of the colourful gorge walls.

Wildlife and wilderness

Enjoy fishing, boating and birdwatching at Yarrie Lake, on the edge of Pilliga Forest. Nearby is the Salt Caves picnic area, the largest native forest west of the Great Dividing Range and a sanctuary for hundreds of bird species and many koalas.

Between Narrabri and Mount Kaputar, the Deriah Aboriginal Area is a tranquil spot for bushwalking, birdwatching and picnicking, with superb views of the region. This area is culturally important to the Gamilaraay Nation.
