Breathe in the beach & bush

With lush hinterland to the west and Tuggerah Lake and the ocean to the east, there’s a lot to love about the Central Coast town of Wyong. Easy beachside living is a given here, but Wyong is also a stone’s throw from must-sees like Yarramalong Valley, the six state forests that make up The Watagans and Norah Head Lighthouse. Don’t leave town without exploring the lake’s cycleway.

Water sports are a popular drawcard to the Wyong area, with the sparkling Tuggerah Lake on one side and aquamarine Pacific Ocean on the other. There are great surfing and fishing spots along the coastline, while the shallow lake is popular for kayaking, sailing and waterskiing. You can cycle or walk around the lake foreshore on the 12km Tuggerah Lakes Cycleway.

Outdoor adventures

There are more outdoor adventures to be had around Tuggerah and Wyong, both a short drive from the beaches. Meet farm animals and enjoy pony rides at the Amazement Farm and Fun Park, where you will find a network of mazes that kids will love. At TreeTop Adventure Park, soar through the forest canopy on zip-lines and the thrilling 1km Crazy Rider, one of the longest rollercoaster zip-lines in the world.

Enjoy mountain biking, bushwalking, horse riding and 4WD touring in The Watagans, a beautiful chain of state forests and mountains. Olney State Forest is a paradise for campers, while the 4WD-only Jilliby State Conservation Area is a natural wonderland for adventure and bird-watching, home to more than 130 bird species.

The Wyong area hosts a vibrant events calendar that includes The Entrance Winter Blues and Jazz Festival and The Lakes Festival, as well as markets, shows, live music events and a wine festival. Keep the kids happy at the splash pool and historic carousel on the waterfront at The Entrance, and visit the Norah Head Lighthouse for more heritage.

Getting there

The Wyong area’s attractions are within easy reach, a 1hr 30min drive north from Sydney and 1hr 10min drive south from Newcastle. You can also catch a train direct from Sydney to Wyong Station, with the journey taking around 1hr 45min. Buses connect many of the towns throughout the area.
