Watersports & cruises

On the banks of Lake Mulwala you’ll find bush camping and walking tracks in Kyffins Reserve. For more water-based fun, captain the sleek River of Islands houseboat and glide along the magnificent Murray River. Another way to experience the spectacular beauty of the area is on the paddle-steamer PS Cumberoona or riverboat MV Paradise Queen.

Lake Mulwala is one of Australia’s premier fishing spots for native Murray cod, and you can also hire a 12 person ‘Barby Boat’ complete with a barbeque, sound system and leather lounge. Mulwala Water Ski Club offers a range of aquatic adventures, from tube rides to waterskiing and wakeboarding lessons.

The Border Bistro at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort also offers a family-friendly environment with everything from steaks and seafood to pan fried curries. At the heritage-listed Byramine Homestead across the river, you’ll find a brewery, winery and cellar door.

Things to do

Discover more fascinating aviation and agriculture heritage at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Pioneer Museum. You can also tour the historic Savernake Station, a 20min drive north of Mulwala. Golfers will want to play a round or two at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort, which has three courses and a driving range. A vibrant events calendar includes the Massive Murray Paddle held annually in November and the monthly Mulwala FNC Market.

Getting there & where to stay

Yarrawonga Mulwala is three hours’ drive from Melbourne and 6h 30min from Sydney. Or you can fly into Albury Airport and rent a car to make the one-hour drive west. On both sides of the river, you’ll find waterside accommodation options, from camping and caravanning to apartments, motels and resorts.
