Jimmy’s daughter Ms Frances Peters-Little said she was thrilled by the decision in paying tribute to her dad and recognising his contribution to Reconciliation, Indigenous Health & Education programs. Jimmy was also voted a ‘National Living Treasure’ in 2004 and awarded the APRA prestigious Ted Albert Award for this ‘Outstanding Services to the Australian Music Industry’ in 2010.
The painting will be based on the photograph done by John Elliott.
Zest Events International were commissioned by Walgett Shire Council to complete the mural.
Jenny McCracken was artist that completed the portrait. Local professional Gamilaroi Artist Frank Wright has been involved in designing the background of the portrait, which includes a river system map of the area and local totems.
