The Snowy Mountains Travellers Rest
Overview
The Snowy Mountains Travellers Rest is a collaboration of buildings on the Snowy Mountains Highway, 6km west of Cooma as you travel towards the mountains.
Set on 3 picturesque acres the original inn was built in 1861 by Hugh Stewart which housed bullock teams as they travelled from Kiandra goldfields to Cooma for supplies.
Now the property boasts a Restaurant, antique/gift shop, functions room, chapel, accommodation and soon a whiskey lounge.
Restaurant and Bar 1861 is set in a stunning conservatory behind the old inn. The licenced restaurant offers an authentic Australian cuisine with a modern twist, the beautiful leafy area and the warmth of the open fire gives this space a lovely, relaxed ambience all year round.
Open from 10.30am Thursday to Sunday this unique property is the perfect stop. Whether it’s a delicious lunch and stroll through the gardens on your way to the mountains, a treasure hunt through the eclectic wares in the shop, a romantic dinner for two, a celebration with friends or you’re looking for a venue to declare your love, Travellers Rest has it all!
