Surf on the Unspoilt South Coast

Grab your board. It’s time for a surfing adventure on the unspoilt South Coast where a string of golden sand beaches runs from Shellharbour to Kiama and the Shoalhaven. The area is known for its friendly and relaxed surf culture, so everyone is welcome to ride the waves.

Ocean temperatures stay a warm 18 degrees all through Winter, you’ll see dolphins every day and whales cruise close to shore later in the season. There’s a break for surfers from beginners to experts, and plenty of places to take a lesson if you want to brush up on your technique.

Killalea in Shellharbour is one of just 21 National Surfing Reserves around Australia, recognised for their iconic status in the national surfing culture. Two breaks here, The Farm and Mystics, are world-famous and not to be missed.

In Kiama, try out The Wedge break on the main Surf Beach in the centre of town or head south for the long rolling waves of Seven Mile Beach at Gerroa, one of the best places in the State to learn to surf.

Shoalhaven is known for its reef breaks and bommies. Beginners should head for Mollymook and Narrawallee beaches, where you can try out gentle rolling waves or take a lesson from former world champ Pam Burridge. Advanced surfers will love Dolphin Point and the Guillotines.
