Stories of the Yellow Silk Dresses
Sunday 12 February 2023 to Sunday 14 May 2023
Overview
Grossmann House opens for 2023 with two very special 18th century silk dresses on display upstairs in the textile room. Explore the property and hear the fascinating stories of these beautiful collection items.
With a fascinating back story, these stunning dresses provide an insight into 18th century costume and the social mores of the time. Researched by NIDA costume students and a teacher, the dresses are a product of a donation in the mid 1900’s to the National Trust of NSW, and many hours of garment detective work and construction.
Grossmann House will be open for tours, and upstairs is encapsulated by a virtual tour so that no one misses out the treasures at the top of the stairs.
Refreshments in the garden of Brough House will be available for sale, as well as Mrs Beckett’s home made jams and preserves. There will also be free children's art activity in the garden echoing an old-world craft.
The Fibre Makers’ Space on the second level of Brough House will be open for a look, and a chat with the artisans working there.
Entry prices, include a full house tour. Booking on Eventbrite is recommended as tour sessions are limited in numbers.
