Take your pick of watersports in this aquatic playground in the Shoalhaven region. Explore the large St Georges Basin by boat or kayak, and go swimming or fishing on the tree-covered shoreline. Soak up the serenity on a scenic bushwalk or cycling track, then enjoy a leisurely waterside picnic.
There are a number of villages dotted around the edge of this beautiful coastal lake. St Georges Basin on the northern shore is the largest and is close to Huskisson, the gateway to Jervis Bay Marine Park. Pick up pastries for breakfast at Kraken Sourdough or enjoy views of the lake from The Pelican Waterfront Cafe and Restaurant. Other villages around the lake include Sussex Inlet and Sanctuary Point.
The lake is teeming with fish. You can hire a boat and cast a line or join a tour with Fish about. There are also tributaries worth exploring such as Wandandian Creek in Corramy Regional Park, a lovely spot for picnics and bushwalking. The Anabranch Loop and Delta Track are rewarding walking tracks in the area.
At Sanctuary Point, rent a bicycle from Bikes at the Basin and pedal along cycling tracks to Jervis Bay. A short drive north of St Georges Basin is Falls Creek, where Valhalla Horse Riding offers horse riding experiences through tranquil bushland. Keep an eye out for kangaroos and wallabies.
Located on the NSW South Coast in the Shoalhaven region, St Georges Basin is a three-hour drive from Sydney along the Grand Pacific Drive, and 2.5 hours from Canberra.
