Overview
Snowy Mountains Backcountry (SMBC) is a year-round outdoor adventure company providing backcountry ski, splitboard and snowshoeing tours in winter and alpine walks in summer. Their base is at the Guthega Mountain Centre, located at arguably the best trail head for backcountry access in the Australian Alps.
This location has excellent access to the alpine reaches of the Main Range and nearby sub-alpine areas like Guthega River, Mount Tate area and The Paralyser affording suitable locations for weather contingency options amongst the protection of the sub-alpine. SMBC offer a variety of tours from introductory Backcountry tours to arduous Ski Mountaineering tours to the famed Western Faces.
They offer a sequential pathway from a beginner BC skier to a Ski Mountaineer. Founded on over 25 years’ backcountry experience in the Snowy Mountains and overseas destinations SMBC have thoughtfully designed their tours with your safety in mind. All SMBC guides hold the relevant qualifications and through good leadership, decision making, and client preparation will guide you on a memorable backcountry experience.
They also have a fleet of K2 Wayback Alpine Touring set ups for hire and offer a retail selection of backcountry items including beacons, probes, shovels, maps, compasses, and many more needy backcountry items.
