For local fare, enjoy a hearty breakfast or lunch at Worn out Wares. An eclectic cafe and gift shop, you can find local artworks, produce and books. Check out the town’s events and time your visit with a food and wine festival.

Outdoor adventure

For a bird’s-eye view of the vineyards and UNESCO World Heritage wilderness, join Skydive Hunter Valley for thrilling tandem skydiving and an unforgettable experience. The aerial adventure takes off from Elderslie Airport, a light aircraft runway a short drive east of Singleton.

Other adventures include horse riding with Chapman Valley Horse Riding in the enchanting Howes Valley, surrounded by World Heritage national parks. Natural Adventures Australia offers guided bushwalking tours, including the Barrington Tops north of Singleton.

Heritage walks

Begin your discovery on the Singleton Heritage Walk, a wonderful walk past beautifully restored colonial buildings. You can pick up a brochure for the walk from the Visitor Information Centre and start strolling at picturesque Burdekin Park, home to the Singleton Historical Museum.

Take your photo at the impressive Singleton Sundial, built with convict-hewn stone and one of the largest sundials in the world. For military heritage, the Australian Army Infantry Museum's fascinating collection spans colonial armies from Gallipoli and Passchendaele to Kokoda, Long Tan and Afghanistan.

Getting there & where to stay

A little over two hours’ drive north from Sydney and an hour from Newcastle, trains from Sydney also stop in this rural getaway. Places to stay suit various budgets, from rural retreats to hotels, caravan parks and camping sites at Lake St Clair, about 30 minutes’ drive north.
