Nine NSW holiday parks for your next family adventure
BIG4 NRMA South West Rocks Holiday Park, South West Rocks
Destination NSW
Whether you want a beach, country, outback or riverside getaway, a stay in one of NSW's family-friendly holiday parks gives you access to handy facilities as well as upping the entertainment ante with waterparks, pump tracks, adventure programs and even remote-control racetracks. Here are nine NSW parks your kids won’t want to leave.
Reckon your kids could survive in the wilderness? Sign them up for the Kids Vs Wild program at NRMA South West Rocks Holiday Park and find out. The Bear Grylls Survival Academy has unleashed the ultimate children’s challenge: SHIPWRECKED – a supervised survival spectacular that will test your kids’ mettle making spears, tying knots, building shelters, and negotiating obstacles. Afterwards, they can debrief at the playground, chill out in the games room, or burn off that pent-up adrenaline at the waterpark.
A kid in water is a happy kid, and at BIG4 Narooma Easts Holiday Park on the Far South Coast, there’s no shortage of ways to savour a summer soaking. Hit the indoor heated splash park, dive into the pool, or get a saltwater fix in the sea. The park hugs the shores off Wagonga Inlet, so water-based activities abound (it’s an especially lovely place to kayak). When it’s time to dry off, the jumping pillow (like an in-ground, safer trampoline) is a fun way to play on land.
Encircled by water with a great big oval in the middle, this BIG4 Nelligen Holiday Park about 20 minutes inland from Batemans Bay. An outdoor-sports utopia, with a skate park, splash park and mini golf, this is a kid holiday heaven. Sitting on the banks of the Clyde River, the park also hires out kayaks and paddleboats, while dry-land pedalling adventures are catered for, too.
Do your kids need time away from their screens? Three kilometres of beach at your doorstep should do it. BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Bonny Hills, located on the NSW Mid-North Coast, has prime position on the Rainbow Beach waterfront, inviting all kinds of swimming, surfing, SUPing and sandcastle making. Nestled in woodland 20 minutes south of Port Macquarie, the park also has a pool, splash park, mini-golf and jumping pillow.
With a swag of kids’ play facilities tucked within the northern tip of Beowa National Park, formerly Ben Boyd National Park,
Two giant water slides, an enormous indoor play zone and a marine museum take child’s play to the next level at North Star. This Tweed Coast gem packs loads of dry and water-based facilities into 10 hectares of manicured gardens, wedged between beach, forest and creek. The best part? Parents are catered for, too, with an adults-only retreat featuring a heated pool and day spa.
You don’t need to be beachside to have a rollicking great waterfront escape. Introduce the kids to waterskiing, boating and fishing at Big4 Deniliquin on the banks of the Edward River (Kolety) in the Riverina region. Gentler than the Murray, it’s a choice spot for swimmers and beginner skiers. Kids not quite ready for the river? The pools, heated waterpark, pump track, jumping pillow and movie nights will have them sorted.
A hop, skip and jump from Albury-Wodonga, Lake Hume is a water sports mecca on the mighty Murray River. Take the kids to try wakeboarding, waterskiing, tube-riding, paddleboarding and more, with Ingenia Holidays Lake Hume the perfect base on the waterfront of one the country’s biggest lakes. Families can launch boats straight from the park, which offers campsites and cabins, and has a swimming pool, splash park, playground, and tennis court to keep the kids busy.
A day on safari makes memorable holiday fodder for little ones, and Taronga Western Plains Zoo is one of the best in the state. Just eight minutes away is NRMA Dubbo Holiday Park, offering a range of accommodation options including deluxe cabins, family budget cabins, studio cabins, powered and unpowered sites. Kids will love the heated swimming pool, games room, playground, bouncing pillow and basketball court, and there’s a leash-free area for families who can’t go on a trip without their pooch.
