Lennox Head

Just a 15-minute drive from Byron Bay, Lennox Head has all the luxuries of its northern neighbour, minus the crowds. Home to world-renowned surf breaks, golden beaches, a tranquil lake, great eating and a classic waterside pub, slow down with the locals on your next North Coast visit.

Surfing & beaches

Lennox Head is one of Australia’s National Surfing Reserves. While the serious surfers head to Boulder Beach, beginners can take a lesson with Soul Surf School or Lets Go Surfing. Pat Morton Lookout is a great spot to watch the action. The town plays host to two surfing comps during the year: the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open in July and the Lennox Longboard Classic in August.

Beach-goers will want to head straight for Seven Mile Beach, a stretch of sand that runs from Lennox Head north to Broken Head. You can also drive a 4WD along the northern end.

Whales & dolphins

There are plenty of lookouts where you can spot whales on their annual migration along the Australian coast between May and November. As the coastline in this region juts further out to the east, the whales can often be seen just off shore. Or take a whale-watching cruise with Out of the Blue Adventures to see them up close. Dolphins often join surfers riding the waves.
