Affectionately known as ‘Submarine Town’, Holbrook is named after the first submariner to receive the Victoria Cross, Lieutenant Norman Holbrook. Learn about his bravery during the 1914 Gallipoli campaign at the Holbrook Submarine Museum and explore a fascinating collection of submarine memorabilia and the decommissioned HMAS Otway submarine.

Nature & adventure

Enjoy bushwalking, mountain biking and 4WD touring on unsealed tracks in the magnificent Woomargama National Park. There are two campgrounds for those who want to enjoy a picnic or set up for the night, as well as bird-watching opportunities. Other outdoor adventures include a round of golf at the Holbrook Golf Course, learning how to fly an ultralight aircraft at the Holbrook Ultralight Club and exploring the Ian Geddes Bushwalk.

Things to do

Call into the Greater Hume Visitor Information Centre for advice on things to do in and around Holbrook. Visit Satch and Co for artwares, Lady Gails Bookshop and Curious for pre-loved goods and Grimwoods Store Craft Shop for locally made goods. Grandma’s Closet sells a range of knitting yarn and wooden toys.

Baking since 1899, the Holbrook Bakery is a popular hub of tasty delights. The Ten Mile is a relaxed eatery set inside a restored mechanic’s workshop and has a large outdoor dining area. Getting there 

Holbrook is a five-hour drive from Sydney, four hours from Melbourne and three hours from Canberra. Alternatively, you can fly or get the train to Albury, 45 minutes away, and rent a car.

Albury Airport is 5km from Albury’s city centre. Use the convenient taxi services at the front of the terminal to take the short journey southwest into the city centre. Alternatively, rent a car from the hire services at the airport and explore the region at your own pace.

Qantas connects Albury with daily direct flights to and from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, including seasonal winter flights twice a week directly to and from Adelaide. Regional Express operates daily direct flights to and from Sydney.
