History & agricultural heritage

In 1914 Henty farmer Headlie Taylor revolutionised farming by inventing his ‘header harvester’ to harvest grain crops. Visit the Headlie Taylor Header Museum and Blacksmiths Shop and admire his pioneering work. More historic machinery is displayed at Ed's Old Farm Machinery Museum.

The Henty Observer Printing Museum contains fascinating printing presses from bygone times. Discover a collection of trash and treasure memorabilia at Dales Mini Museum. For modern farm innovation and entertainment, the Henty Machinery Field Days is a fun family event held in September.

Explore the town

Enjoy a delicious pastry and coffee at the Vintage Coffee Shop in Henty. Pack a hamper and have a picnic at the Henty Man sculpture, a local landmark and tribute to itinerant workers during the Great Depression. Then play a round at Henty Golf Course, an 18-hole sand green course.

For local artwork, visit the Henty Creative Gallery or Doodle Cooma Craft Shop, also home to visitor information. Just outside town, the Sergeant Smyth Memorial commemorates policeman Thomas Smyth, who was shot and killed by notorious colonial bushranger ‘Mad Dog’ Morgan in 1864.

Nature & adventure

Enjoy canoeing and kayaking among red gums that are hundreds of years old in tranquil Doodle Cooma Swamp. This beautiful wetland habitat is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Another popular bird-watching spot is the Henty Government Dam Nature Reserve, home to 140 bird species and two walking tracks.

Getting there

Located on Olympic Highway, Henty is a five-hour drive from Sydney and four hours from Melbourne. It’s an easy 45-minute drive from both Albury and Wagga Wagga. You can also fly or catch the train to Albury and hire a car to explore the region.
