Shoalhaven Food & Drink
The Shoalhaven region of the NSW South Coast tastes as good as it looks. Enjoy delicious oysters plucked straight from the estuary, sip glorious wines while enjoying picturesque views, sample fresh produce at local restaurants and pick up gourmet treats from providores in cute villages.
A wine tasting trail
Explore the emerging Shoalhaven Coast wine region, where vineyards spill down the hills to the coastal plains. There are almost a dozen cellar doors to visit, including Silos Estate near Berry, Cambewarra Estate near Nowra, Coolangatta Estate near Shoalhaven Heads, Cupitt’s Estate near Ulladulla and Bawley Vale Estate near Bawley Point.
Top regional restaurants
You’ll find many delicious eateries in the Shoalhaven. Some of the most acclaimed restaurants include South on Albany in Berry, The Gunyah near Huskisson, Rick Stein at Bannisters and Gwylo in Mollymook, Small Town Food and Wine in Milton and Cupitt’s Estate Restaurant in Ulladulla. There’s also lots of great pubs and cafes to enjoy.
More foodie experiences
The Shoalhaven is the gateway to Australia’s Oyster Coast. You can taste freshly shucked local oysters at Jim Wild’s Oyster Service at Greenwell Point, a charming village on the Crookhaven River estuary and a short drive from Culburra Beach. Nearby, Nowra Fresh is the region’s biggest retailer of fresh local seafood.
In the delicious village of Berry, pick up cinnamon doughnuts from the iconic Berry Donut Van and artisan confectionery from The Treat Factory. For top coffee, visit Hyper Hyper and Hit N Run in Nowra. Head to Clyde River Berry Farm, near Bawley Point, for farm-made jams and berry picking in summer.
Tours are a great way to experience the Shoalhaven’s gourmet delights. Visit local cellar doors on a winery tour with Kenny Escapes Food and Wine Tours. Join Foodscape Tours for the Bite Around Berry tour to sample local chocolate, meats, cheeses and wine from artisan producers.
Visit markets & food events
Delightful food and wine events add to the Shoalhaven’s appeal as a foodie destination. Browse the produce stalls at local markets such as the Berry Farmers Market, Milton Village Showground Markets and Kangaroo Valley Farmers Market. The South Coast Food and Wine Festival in October is another delicious proposition.
