Deniliquin
Edward River, Deniliquin
Deniliquin is an aquatic playground on the beautiful Edward River, a tributary of the Murray River. The perfect escape for waterskiing, wakeboarding and fishing, as well as bushwalking, cycling and golf, this waterside town is also home to the world-famous Deni Ute Muster.
Explore the river by kayak, boat or houseboat, or hire bicycles and pedal along the riverbank. You can also cycle the Beach to Beach Riverside Walk, which takes in the Island Sanctuary, home to kangaroos and over 100 bird species. Or enjoy the surroundings from the neighbouring Deniliquin Golf Club.
Just south of Deniliquin, the Edward River meanders into the spectacular Murray Valley National Park, which protects the Riverina’s Ramsar-listed wetlands. The park has three loop mountain bike tracks to explore, winding through majestic river red gum forest. Keep an eye out for eastern grey kangaroos.
The iconic two-day Deni Ute Muster is one of Australia’s premier rural events and holds the Guinness World Record for the largest parade of utility vehicles. Held annually on the October long weekend, head along to enjoy live music, ute competitions, rodeo and plenty of things to do for the kids.
For delicious local dishes, enjoy a seasonally created paddock-to-plate experience at the Long Table Cafe. Pick up fresh produce at the Lions Club Community Market on the fourth Sunday of the month, or the Naponda Farmers Marketon the second Saturday morning of the month.
For a taste of local history, visit the fascinating Deniliquin and District Historical Society Museum and Peppin Heritage Centre. Check out the events calendar for more local festivities, such as the Deniliquin Fishing Classic, an annual catch-and-release fishing competition on the Edward River.
